Beach body in 4 weeks – The clean way

So moving from Australia to North America I realised I had gained several kilograms of unwanted body fat regardless of maintaining a relatively healthy eating habit and keeping up my general exercise routine.

I blamed it on the urban lifestyle, reaching for more comfort foods, having less motivation to exercise on average particularly during the harsh Canadian winters and the denial that my metabolism was slowing down with age.

Sound familiar?

I’ve never been a believer in dieting rather in eating wholesome foods and complimenting it with exercise regularly on a weekly basis. Given those stubborn few kilograms of weight that I wanted to lose wasn’t coming off I decided with another friend to try Bodyism’s ‘bikini program’ devised by Elle McPherson’s trainer James Duigan.

These were our results after the 4 week bikini program:

1) Weight loss of 3.5 – 4 kgs
2) Increase in lean body tone – This is fairly obvious after 1 week in the program
3) Glowing skin – Received compliments from friends and colleagues on this
4) Faster and more clarity in thought processes
5) Increased positive mood
6) Increased energy levels
7) The weight stays off post program – 6 months after the program the weight was easy to keep off

So what are you waiting for? Check out Bodyism’s Bikini program and you won’t be disappointed.

Hopefully, you will feel so revived you won’t rush back into your old eating habits. Make a conscious effort to continue these clean- eating principles. By all means, enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, just don’t overdo it. However, a good rule to live by is 80/20: 80 per cent wholefood, 20 per cent indulgence. Dust off that bikini and hit the beach this year as a healthy, cleansed, lighter you.

5 reasons to start yoga

Have you ever wondered why you feel so good after a yoga class? It’s almost like you are standing on top of the world?

In yoga, there is a strong mind body connection that keeps us in touch with ourselves, each other and helps keeps us grounded. By practicing yoga it’s almost we evolve, grow and we come more in tune with ourselves.

There are many benefits to yoga and here are just a few:

1. Reduces Stress

Bringing our awareness to our breath triggers the relaxation response in our bodies. Aligning our breath with the physical practice, releases body tension.

2. Heals

The poses, conscious breathing and visualisations reduce physical pain as well as emotional anxiety. Yoga reduces stress, improves sleep, reduces cortisol levels, lowers blood pressure and heart rate.

3. Breaks Bad Habits

Yoga helps discard limiting beliefs of ourselves. Letting go of habits allows us to see more clearly what is possible both on and off our mats.

4. Build’s muscle strength

Strong muscles protect us from conditions such as arthritis and back pain and helps prevents falls in elderly people. When you build strength through yoga, you balance it with flexibility. In contrast, lifting weights at a gym may build strength but at the expense of flexibility.

5. Healthy lymph

Contracting and stressing muscles, moving organs around, and come into and out of yoga postures, this increases the drainage of lymph. In effect this helps the lymphatic system fight infection, destroy cancerous cells, and dispose of the toxic waste products of cellular functioning.

With these benefits why not look into your finding some local yoga lessons and get started?

Or if you are on a budget there are various cheap or free yoga websites that I recommend and these are:
